source: Mary Poppins Returns
Bless their little hearts. It is apparent that everyone involved in this movie worked exceptionally hard. But the story just was not that good. The songs were forgettable. When going about creating this movie, did anyone think if they should?
Long and boring! Fell asleep several times and I just wanted it to end. None of the songs made any sense and they are totally forgettable.
The acting was good. The characters were likeable but the music let it down. This film wasn't necessary.
Ignore the negativity. Ignore the "how dare they mess with a classic?!". And, most definitely, ignore the "unforgettable music". Mary Poppins Returns is practically perfect in every way. It has great characters, a fantastic score, memorable songs and ... dare I say it? ... a storyline! There are nods to the original without being a carbon copy; but its originality does shine through. It's colourful, it's fun, it made me smile. Don't tell me you all walked out of the cinema in the 60s remembering all the words to "Sister Suffragette" and "Stay Awake". They're cultural songs, that's why they're unforgettable. A couple more watches and you'll be "Looking Up" with "Imagination" and remembering that "nothing's lost forever". Give it a go... you'll be pleasantly surprised. Oscar for Miss Blunt please :)
The Banks children are all grown up- and they question what they remember doing with Mary Poppins. And of course, in their hour of need, Mary Poppins returns to save the day! This was a wonderful sequel with lots nods to the original movie. A clean and fun movie! Parents should know that parental death plays a fairly big role in the movie and there's some scenes with fire as well. But overall a VERY clean, family friendly, movie! The soundtrack is fantastic and so is ALL of the acting! There are also some amazing cameos! Check out our review and discussion guide for the movie at Down The Hobbit Hole Blog dot com.
The real Mary Poppins Look wistfully out the window in a melancholy state she is always determined The real Mary Poppins would never speak or sing in slang she is proper The real Mary Poppins would never sing with sexual connotation she is, again, proper The real Mary Poppins would never have let the kids get lured away she is responsible The real Mary Poppins would never have let the kids run off in the bank by themselves she keeps order The real Mary Poppins would never be rude to a counter agent, again again, she is proper The real Mary Poppins would never let the kids lead the way home and get lost she is always in charge The real Mary Poppins would never ride a bmx bike, enough said The real Mary Poppins would never need to be disciplined, she does everything with purpose and intent The real Mary Poppins wouldn't stand around the entire time while the story happens around her... Why did Mary Poppins even show up?!?
