I love this movie
Touchy subject for some, life and death subject for others. This was a touching and well done movie that feels authentic and non controversial in Europe, but would be very controversial in English speaking nations. Regardless, it's was nice story and well acted by the young cast. Reminded me of a time before phones where you would play in the field with friends.
A perfect example of French cinema-making. It's paced, calm and the viewer is left to respond to the film in his/her own way, without being manipulated by anything other than what's on the screen. I love the way that French films make so little use of music to milk the audience's response. The children are simple, free and totally believable. Zoé is quite simply remarkable, as is her little sister. The direction is masterly. As for the subject matter, if you work with children, you'll recognise how true the story rings. One of the best films I've seen this year.
Tomboy is a beautiful and great movie! It's a movie you can watch and feel peace inside, which isn't that usual when watching movies nowadays (especially American movies). I love how they let this movie take it's time, I think that's really important and movies usually have a tendency to move on way too fast. Finally a movie with a topic that is new (and important) and not something you've seen 1000 times. The actress playing the main character is also doing an amazing job, making her character really believable. Gotta have this in my DVD-collection!
It isn't often that I enjoy movies based around children, but it was impossible for me to hate this one. French films have always had a sense of honesty that I value and Tomboy did not disappoint in that aspect. Taking a serious topic and putting it in the perfect of a child was genius. Almost everything about this movie was completely fulfilling. The story is so captivating that I found little time to focus on technical aspects of the film. The emotion was spectacular in a simple and childish way that reminds me of being younger. This movie would have been nearly perfect if the story had been properly finished. The ending was very unsatisfactory and left so much to be wanted for such an amazing film. Unfortunately because the ending was so hollow I can't give this movie an extremely high rating, but I definitely recommend it.
This a worst movie ever. This movie includes negative representations and/or inappropriate mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and they are wrong now. Rather than removing this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it, and initiate conversations to create a more inclusive future together.
The Tomboy, Laure moves to new neighbourhood during the summer break before the school starts. She pretends to be a boy named Michael to her new friends there. She does many things to pretend herself as a boy in the film. The main character is very good in this film, but also a love of family, especially the relationship between Laure and her sister Jeanne is delightful. The story is well written, and the film is very touching, and wonderful. The theme of the film is very unique. Nowadays, transsexualism is getting a big social problem in the real world. I think this film is good film to a start to think about this problem. To just think about the film, I especially liked the ending part. I cannot spoil it, but I was very touched by the relationship between Laure and Lisa. Please watch this film and have fun!
