A hilarious series to watch and enjoy with the moments and happenings captured perfectly in a college hostel. It was so real with all the dialogues, emotions, fights, friendships. If one has not got the pleasure to live in a hostel, this series would make anyone feel and miss it for sure!! Very well directed in perfection, Director Sathish! Kudos to Chitappa, Raja thilagam, and Ajay for being so natural in the series!! And the dialogue delivery was "sooo natural" that it doesn't seem anyone has just merely "acted" their characters in the series. Applause!!! Can't wait for more!! Expecting soon Director Sathish!!
Ahaana is 200% a replica of my life. All my life my name is misspelled by everyone,I have tried correcting each and everyone a zillion times but no use, they go back to butchering my name. I have watched the original hostel daze in Hindi and didn't have high hopes for the show since remakes always end in spoiling the original but I was surprised to see how they developed the lead girls hostel characters. In the Hindi version they would have just used the girls as a subplot but happy to see the girls getting equal substance. Taking nothing away from Chithappu portraying jhantoo but the latter is a legend. Senthil and Pandi are very likeable,I loved Raja to bits, her love triangle with Ajay is good but her equation with Pandi is more interesting. Looking forward to the final season of Hostel Daze & second season of Engga Hostel.
So much cuss words in the first episode that i lost count. I am glad I watched it alone, I was laughing so much that I started choking at certain scenes, it would have been embarrassing for me to explain that I was choking cause of the cuss words that were thrown at random and my gosh that Chithappu was jus rhyming bad words throughout the show. Chang chellam was truly charming, he looks like a BTS artist, please use him more in the upcoming seasons 😍 I am so happy that they explored the Girls Hostel, I have never been in a hostel & watching it makes me realise the fun I missed. Ahaana and Raja's conversation about guys attraction to milfs was epic. Season 2 come fast, can't wait.
Been an hostel student since my high school then in college I totally fell in love with this series. Though some scenes were filmy I could instantly connect with a lot of scenes like for example i was also made to propose to a senior girl as part of the ragging ritual. Eventually that senior girl and i became close friends and we still keep in touch. I called her up to catch up with this series but she too had seen the show and wanted to talk to me about the same. Ajay was so in sync with me, introvert studied in boys school, that actor played his part really well. Been a fan of parithabangal for a long time, happy to see Dravid getting a full fledged role. Anyone watching the series would definitely connect with some character or incident. Waiting for boys hostel raid next season.
Watching the first two episodes I was very underwhelmed, the ragging scenes & * scenes are mildly engaging. Too many bad words, I know it's a show about hostel & college but overuse of cursing could have been avoided. But Episodes 3,4 & 5 were just so engaging, felt so bad for Senthil at the end, going out of the way to help people and feeling used is something I truly relate with. Pandi was just too good, his Madurai slang and his counters to each and every situation was extremely hilarious, the scenes of him & Senthil dressed as cupids were fun. Ahana & Raja were a delight to watch, their initial conflicts, hatred to a lovely friendship was so connecting. The love triangle story was handled so well. Ajay was such an empathetic character, story revolves mostly around him and he has done complete justice to it. I could rate this show 10/10 but the first two episodes brought down my rating to 8/10. Looking so forward to Season 2.
I almost gave up on this show and called it quits but one my friends insisted me to watch the 3rd episode so I gave the show a second chance 2 days later and it was like a completely different show. The characters started developing very well from the 3rd episode and reached a well written finale, don't know why they couldn't follow the same flow in the first two episodes. First two episodes were so badly written with an excellent cast at hand, the girls ragging and proposing to another girl was a complete snooze fest, ragging was too stretched out & felt tiring to a point that I had to fast forward. On comparison the second episode was better but not on par with the last 3 episodes. If you want to watch this series, skip the first two episodes, you wouldn't be missing much.
Took me a lot of time to finish Episode 1,had to pause start and again pause since I could not connect initially. Had the same problem in Episode 2 but the Girls Hostel saved it. The main problem I found with the first 2 episodes were that they concentrated more on ragging and * than the actual characters. There is so much potential in each and every character, that's good writing on the characters but their development was shunted by ragging and *. But Episodes 3 4 5 were brilliant, it concentrated more on the characters rather than following the troupes of love, birthday and exams, the screenplay brilliantly used the above troupes to develop the characters. I would go with 8/10.
I am at phase of my life where I terribly miss my hostel and college days where I used to have lots of fun and smile, laugh a lot. Nowadays I am just going with the flow of time, working, socialising but not really having the fun and memories I used to have before but this series just made me realise how lucky I had been in life. Most of the scenes resonated with me since it has either happened to me or my friends, the fake id scene was ultimate, had so much friend those days pretending to be a girl and cheating my friend. Even the exam scenes were so on point, group studies, trying to get the help from the toppers to teach us and finally trying in vain to buy a question paper from a senior who claims it's legit. Ajay Pandi Senthil Chithappa Changu Raja Ahana and the supporting characters were just brilliant, music was so good with superb visuals. Each and every episode has something to remind us of our hostel days, thank you team for making me and so many like me to relive their memories once again.
I have watched all 3 seasons of Hindi Hostel Daze and was very doubtful about the Tamil adaptation because Hostel Daze is one of TVF's weakest shows, it has gone from bad to worse to worst with every season. Engga Hostel begins on the same note like Hostel Daze with a concentration more on Episodic treatment rather than focusing on the characters which we will be rooting for. Ragging and Porn was overused but what i liked about the * part was not showing anything explicitly but leaving it to the audience imagination and another impressive part was about showing the Girls discussions around Porn. The Tamil version then completely diverged from the original content from Episode 3 onwards with fresh conflicts of Senthil Mosa Raja Chang and Chithappa which was so well written and executed. Hopefully Season 2 stops focusing on mundane theme treatments which gets tiring after a point but carry forward these fresh conflicts and develop the characters more.
Never heard about this series until I saw a few funny memes on Instagram and decided to give it a shot. It was completely worth it. So much rofl moments in every episode, I don't get it why amazon is not promoting this show at all, it was such a good series that has so much relatable incidents. The story revolves mostly around Ajay and he has completely done justice for it, have seen Ajay and Ahana in a YouTube short film, their chemistry is really superb but I preferred the plot of Raja and Ajay more. The emotions of Senthil was so well acted out, am really watching out how he's going to move forward in the coming seasons. Pandi and Chithappu were kickass entertainers, with just over 150 mins runtime, Engga Hostel is a superb stress buster.
