I'm usually not a fan of stories in which there's a lot of focus on romance and the main characters fall in love very early on but these aspects, as well as all others, were so well-written that I actively enjoyed them. The relationship between the main characters is so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I also love how its comedic scenes are both witty and entertaining without being childish or cringey. Another thing this drama does successfully that most don't is it's portrayal of a strong female lead. Most sageuk dramas make their female lead a Mary Sue who always has a plan, knows things no body else does, never suffers the consequences of her actions, never gets scared and always succeeds. These unrealistic standards don't apply to Lady Ok; her strength is gained through tremendous effort, persistence even after failures, the willingness to put others first and the support of those she's helped. Great characterisation and writing in general, a lovely soundtrack too.
One of the best ancient time kdramas I have ever seen. Why isn't this more popular??? This is a story about a woman with two identities and two men with the same appearance and the various trials, triumphs and secrets that make up their relationship with one another. First and foremost, I love the fact that this drama is very straight to the point and wastes no time on unnecessary plotlines just to lengthen the episode count. This is a pit that a lot of dramas, especially sageuk fall into, introducing characters with no impact and adding a lot of comedic scenes just to waste time. There's none of that here: every single episode is a rollercoaster of important events and even the most obscure characters contribute something eventually. If anything, it's a bit too fast paced and if you look away for a minute, you could miss an important detail. And why would you even want to look away from this amazing drama?
