The plot is quite predictable and it also has a lot of holes in it. But somehow it is very pleasurable to watch, if nothing else for the scenery and McManus' blue eyes. If you have a passion for sappy B-Movies, this one's for you. In the feel-good genre, this movie is a nice one. I would have gone without the good guys versus bad guys subplot, which was not very enticing and poorly written, but most of all distracted from the main plot of family feuds, human love, and romance. Ed Asner's role is too stereotypical, and he wasn't given time and room to explore it, which is a terrible waste. He could have done so much more for the movie, but it was reduced to old clichés.
Really good acting. Even though there are no famous actors in the film, the actors are coming across very real. The old grandfather is smashing it even! Amazing scenes. You really would like to live in a place like this. High quality camera. You can see the small details on the long distance shots. Good music. It goes with the story really well and it would be good to listen to it just in itself. Strong story and message. There is a love story but the characters didn't just came out of the wallpaper. They have their past that shaped their personalities. There is action and a moral lesson to learn. Just perfect! :)
I don't understand the poor ratings this movie receives. It's a very well written movie. It speaks to the silly issues that tear families apart. I know too many families that have been ripped apart by prideful silliness. I guess it seems so absurd it happens to your family. The acting is good with an interesting cast. I enjoyed this movie and it holds up over time. I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a simple movie with an engaging plot. I like that the lead actress was unknown to me. It makes it easier to believe her in the part. In too many movies I've seen the actor in so many movies that all I see is an actor playing a part. The movie is much more engaging when you can believe the actor in her part.
A straightforward, sweet & predictable romance movie. Nothing to be excited over, just decent. Watching. It's appropriate for watching as a family, with your date or on your own. Great scenery and if you like country scenery with horses, then this is a good choice. Nothing complicated here, just good to watch to relax and take away some stress. Acting is ok, nothing to shout about. Chemistry between main leads is alright, nothing to set your heart flipping. Halfway through the movie, I felt I had watched it before - well, that just told me it wasn't memorable first time round but ok enough for me to re-watch on a lazy afternoon.
This isn't an Oscar movie, and it's quite predictable, but I loved it! Great acting, a lovely story line (with some bits of mystery) and a stunning setting. I finished with a lump in my throat and smile on my face.
This is a simple story that sort of follows a Romeo and Juliette family type of feud. The main protagonist inherits her father's ranch which she has never visited but intends to sell. For some reason her father leaves an odd clause in his last will that she must visit the ranch before selling. Obviously there is a handsome love interest who is the foreman and a boyfriend she left back home. It's very formulaic and predictable but in a charming way. The protagonist falls in love with the ranch, the foreman and heals generational wounds by forgiveness. There are a couple antagonists to keep the story interesting.
Seems like I just watched almost the same story a couple weeks ago. So much is predictable. Some of it is a bit cheesy. Somehow parts of it felt clumsy. Kennedy's speech to Derek near the end was poorly done - overplayed. Even so, most of it is a sweet story with a bit of intrigue and danger thrown in. I haven't seen Michaela McManus before, but I liked her. I didn't see much chemistry with Diogo Morgado. He was too reserved and their screen time was diluted with so many other things going on. A lot of the movie is about Kennedy finding out about the ranch and her history.
We're watching this movie right now on Up, and I can't get over how Michaela McManus completely owns the screen. She's beautiful, but also such a great actress that she conveys every little subtle emotion with just a look. Throw in the Bionic Woman and Ed Asner and you have an instant classic.
