Tedious and terrible. What a mess of a story. The girl has a mad, controlling mother and a psychotic father. She meets a guy who loves her and her mother tries to kill him. Boudica ends up breaking his neck even though she loves him because he tried to defend himself against her crazy mother. Does it sound like the story of Boudica the warrior queen? No. Nothing like it. It's ridiculous, low budget, boring, and has no battle scenes at all. This must be a different Boudica. What a waste of time.
I understand why this movie is disappointing for many people. It's a mediocre movie to begin with and it doesn't deliver what most people expect from it. This movie is not about "Boudica: The Warrior Queen", but about "Boudica: ***RISE*** of the Warrior Queen". This movie is not about a powerful woman with an oversized sword living up to the feminist ideals. It's more about a teenage girl who grudgingly obeys her mother most of the time and would loose every fight if any of the warriors took her seriosly. Which makes sense since her combat training is hitting a tree about three times with a stick. This movie is also not about epic battles - It contains a few somewhat unrealistic fight scenes, but it's more about drama, relationships, lies and people with bad soft skills and attitude killing eachother. Also the timelines in the movie might be confusing for some. What it does good: Displaying conflicts. I liked that there's a small twist in the "I don't want to marry for political reasons" trope.
If you like the lifetime channel, then you'll love this movie.
The only historical records of Boudica where written by the Romans who had no interest in her until she become Queen so this is pure fiction. Why does it matter ? because the actual historical events that have been written about would make a fantastic epic move but I guess that would have required a budget. One of the things that annoy me the most about movie makers of today is they love to replace traditional male roles with women but there are many great woman like Boudica that great movies could be made about but all they get is low budget, badly written with nobody actors movie made about them ... if you have any interest in Queen Boudica don't bother with this insult to her
It's not even laughably bad, it's just bad. Some of the Celtic and Roman costumes and weapons are pretty good, but one of the main characters walks around in a shirt that looks manufactured and bought from Target! The acting is pretty good in places, but it's wasted on a lackluster story with the pacing of a sloth and very little substance. It all feels like exposition for another movie we never get to see. The overall plot is nonsensical, the meager drama is based around the characters getting away from something they end up going back to in the end. Read the plot synopsis and leave it at that, don't waste your time.
I bought this with high hopes of sharing the story of one of the greatest female leaders ever to exist, only for it to be a complete washout. A bitter disappointment. Do not waste your time.
