Right from the get-go of the British crime thriller "Tiger House" we learn that this young lass (Kaya Scodelario, "The Maze Runner") is a competitive gymnast. And her character's athletic prowess is showcased in some scenes here certainly. Still, it never reaches the level of kick-ass ninja warrior stuff you fully anticipated considering the dire circumstances of this home invasion horror show. Tiger House......eh, more of a tabby shack.
The introduction of a film normally presents some sort of dilemma with the main characters. In this film, it was strongly lacking a solid conflict. Was the conflict the unexpected pregnancy of the main female character? Was it the fact she was suffering an injury due to being accidentally shot by her boyfriend? I had difficulty establishing what the initial conflict was prior to the rise of the primary conflict of the home invasion. Likewise, the ending was also weak. Personally, I want a solid ending which completes the circle by reminding the viewer of the initial conflict, and of course, concluding with some sort of resolution to the conflict. While the film did end with the resolution of the primary conflict (the bad guys die and the hero lives) it did very little, if anything, to bring about some type of resolution or conclusion to the initial dilemma, which again, was also somewhat vague, which made the ending seem random and confusing. The film was also extremely unrealistic in it's portrayal of characters, in particular, a character who was portrayed as one of the ruthless, violent hostage takers, who had a sudden, unrealistic change of heart, and took pity on the main character, killing one of his fellow partners in crime in order to save her life, which was pretty absurd. The movie ends with the main character taking a large sum of money which had been previously obtained by the captors in an armed robbery. Again, beyond ridiculous (unless, of course, this girl had some pretty in-depth money laundering experience). While the movie did provide some decent suspense, overall, it was just entirely too unrealistic to the point of being laughable at times.
Everyone has to be a critic and judge based on their own taste, my philosophy is simple, did it entertain you!! This movie did that, great cast, decent story, yes some of it wouldn't happen in the real world, but neither would avatar but it grossed a billion dollars, oh and so did avengers and that's completely unbelievable!! So sit back and be entertained!!
