Trailer _ Separation

Despite the mostly negative reviews this movie has gotten, I still wanted to see it. Anybody who feels that way, please keep in mind that it's more of a thriller/suspense than a horror movie. The puppet, clown looking thing does put some supernatural horror into the plot but it's not what you think. I enjoyed it and I would definitely give it a try when it's on one of your subscription channels for free.
Take it with a grain of salt I haven't watched much horror lately. But. I found this one very interesting. Traveling to my family's country & coming back here to see a lot of the things that we do differently than the rest of the world.. this movie seemed to highlight the chain reactions of being selfish & sinful that many North Americans seem to ignore in their day to day lives. Having the privilege to travel really highlights the ways in which were a little too selfish for our own good.
Didnt hate it but didnt love it we wanted to get out of the house and not much is playing because Hollywood is so fricking greedy!! Had a few good moments and we liked that cast. Didnt really need Brian cox but I'm sure he needs a paycheck as well. I'd recommend waiting for Netflix or Amazon, hbo, whatever. Not worth going to the theater but it was nice to get out of the house and it was senior day so its 5 bucks.
You can't tell what's hallucination and what's supernatural, they really don't make that clear. And an evil mom? Seriously? No. A mom wouldn't turn evil like that. Would have made more sense if a demon latched onto the child. Really nonsensical. Would describe it as artsy fartsy- way to much focus on some obscure meaning rather than a plot that made any sense.
I saw "Separation", starring Rupert Friend-Homeland_tv, Hitman:Agent 47; Mamie Gummer-The Good Wife_tv, Ricki and the Flash; Violet McGraw-Doctor Sleep, Ready Player One; Madeline Brewer-The Handmaid's Tale, Orange is the New Black_tv and Brian Cox-the Super Troopers movies, the Red movies. This is a horror movie that doesn't have much horror in it. A lot of it happens in a dream or only one person will see something and they will dismiss it. Rupert is a failed comic artist-he hasn't worked steadily in a few years-that had a minor hit with some scary looking puppets that he called, 'Grisly Kin'. Mamie is his wife, a lawyer, that is tired of his freeloading and wants a divorce. She also wants full custody of their daughter, Violet, and on the urging of her father, Brian-also a lawyer-and she wants to move far away from Rupert. Rupert loves Violet-Mamie, too,but it's not reciprocated-and wants to make things work. Violet loves his puppets and has dolls of them that she loves to play with. Madeline is the babysitter when Rupert and Mamie are working. Mamie is taken out by a hit and run driver before the divorce is finalized but then strange things start to happen. People start seeing things-and then waking up-or an apparition will appear and then disappear. Is the spirit of Mamie back or is it something worse? The best thing that comes close to giving a good scare is the clown puppet. It is a contortionist and does a creepy looking spider walk. It's rated "R" for language, violence and drug use and has a running time of 1 hour & 47 minutes. It's not one that I would buy on DVD or even rent. I guess if you really want to see it, I would wait until it comes to cable.
