Flora is a circus elephant who can no longer perform her tricks. The night before she's scheduled to be euthanized, the circus owner's 14-year old daughter, Dawn, sneaks Flora from the circus. All that stands between them and the safety of the elephant preserve is two hundred kilometers of woods, one raging river, two elephant hunters and the fear of not making it.

While the story was rather predictable to the adult viewer, younger viewers will enjoy this movie. If you are a child watching, maybe you wouldn't think of search planes or helicopters. It was a very nice story though, and one worth believing in. There is some peril further in, and the chars are rather rough. Dialogue is also predictable and seems to end a little easier than expected. The one issue I had was that they said Flora was in a circus in Wichita, KS in 1983. While we've had circuses come through, Wichita has never had "a circus". We have an award winning zoo that is vey lucky to have one of the best elephant preserving habitats - but no circus.
One of the best Outstanding Actors I seen in the moving Saving Flora,The movie was very entertaining and I would like to see him cast in more roles. All my friends really enjoyed this movie. I would like to stay updated on any details about this film or sequels.
This is an enjoyable movie that is perfect for the whole family to watch. Yes, it's not going to win any awards but the acting is descent and the story was uplifting and entertaining. Jenna Ortega plays the adorable, and spunky, Dawn, 14-year-old daughter of a circus owner. Dawn is determined to rescue her elephant friend Flora from being euthanized now that the elephant is too old and arthritic to perform. Flora and Dawn have quite an adventure on their 300 mile journey to an elephant preserve. As Dawn's worried father is searching for them, the pair have an eventful trek making new friends, running from (some cheesy) hunters, and dealing with nature, all while teaching us about love, trust, and not giving up in what you believe in. Great for family movie night IMHO. 12/2020
I agree that the movie had a lot of flaws; however, we watched it on Starz and found it to be a very enjoyable and uplifting film. The beautiful scenery, excellent acting, and positive ending made it worth watching.
Ok ok, so it was only four reviews before mine... No it isn't an epic, but the story behind this film is definitely compelling...you simply have to love Flora, an older circus elephant who can't do her tricks anymore. The circus owner's 14 year old daughter gets wind of Flora being scheduled for euthansia as the most expedient way to handle the 'problem', and steals Flora , embarking on a journey to get her to the nearby preserve. Actually it isn't all that nearby and the little mini adventures pile up as game hunters and others close in... Sorry but this is one of those heartwarming stories that fewer and fewer people seem to appreciate in today's world...it is well worth 97 minutes of your time...!!
I love animal movies but this was just an average film (with great scenery and decent acting). Much of the film was hard to "buy in to" though. Jenna Ortega is a fine young actor and I'm confident she'll make better films in the future. Recommended, but don't go in with high expectations.
