Ben Gri by Yagmur Taylan and Durul Taylan brothers is indeed a decent thriller. The series is about the conspracy that is played on a lawyer who supports the supremacy of law over evil, but who also defended an accused sex offender in the past. The cast played by Timucin Esen, Alican Yucesoy, Ebru Ozkan are all good, the villains (the sex offender and the conspirator) also play their role perfectly. The series claim nobody is totally clean or dirty, rather they make their fates with their choices. The smiling-face organization forces our hero to pay the debt of his past choices, forcing him to kill or face with predators. The series could be much better with a tighter and longer storyline. In the end, we clearly understand the message, who is who and why is why, but it leaves too much blank spots in the story. This thriller could be better, but it is good in itself indeed.
There were holes in this series' plot big enough to sink the Titanic. The (anti)hero was an intelligent guy. Yet he left his DNA and fingerprints all over the place. It's actually possible that he could have got away with most if not all of the crimes he was being forced to do but he was so careless. And he was only committing these crimes to avoid repurcussions to his family and for fear of exposure of the previous ones. Yet he laid himself open to being caught. That Inspector Bulent didn't order a single forensic team to swab for prints was completely unbelievable. The overriding concept, if one can call it that, of some all-seeing puppet master controlling video cameras, phones and computers from somewhere was frankly absurd. I mean, at one point he rescues Fuat twenty five miles deep inside a forest from under the eyes of cops thirty yards away. OK, I watched it all but not because of some sense of intrigue. I just wanted to know how much more ludicrous the storyline would become. The puppet master had collected a huge cast of extras to do his bidding. How? When? The most absurd scene was when Fuat wanders through a private disco covered in blood and no one takes a blind bit of notice. It's not explained or shown how, just after, he gets into Sefa's lair without the two gorilla bodyguards stopping him. After all, they had stopped Ceyda quickly enough. The dénouement, in the closing couple of minutes of the final episode, of who the Controller is, was totally unsatisfactory both in terms of who it was and the complete lack of any explanation of why and how they'd done what they had. Particularly the why. We were left high and dry as to motivation. Three stars awarded because I watched it all. Some of the acting was fair too. But as for what we were meant to believe, well, better to say nothing more.
If he drives a motorcycle, why doesn't he have gloves, it leaves such obvious traces that it is unlikely that a lawyer in such a clever role will make such simple mistakes, although the scenario is good, there are many open doors. Also, the script has a copy smell. Excerpts of a few movies made in the USA? If I say. Or almost scraps from a few different movies? Since the Y&D brothers are in the director's chair, there is a plethora of visual and digital effects. The places were nice, the subject was fluent in the beginning. Then we have to press the skip button for 10 seconds continuously. We found the solution for it. When we watch the Episodes by increasing the speed by X1.5.
It is a good thriller with twists and turns. Each episode ends in a way which wants you to watch what is coming next. All actors are good and the atmosphere of the thriller is designed in line with the topic presented. The progress of the storyline is fluid and continuous and does not leave any gaps. New information constantly come to line which make the situations which were presented in past clearer but at the same time still introduce levels of mystery further which makes you wonder what comes next. The storyline really well represents the title of the CHOICE between what is our mind or heart telling us.
