Bottom line is: the character, Shamekka, should have been the main character if this was meant for today's audience. Nola's character is boring and the acting is terrible between her and the three guys. Her sexual freedom seems to come at the expense of every other aspect of her life. This seems to be from the perspective of what Nola's parents think her life is like instead of what her life is actually like. So its overwhelmingly corny. Okay, I get it. Nola is sexually free. Great, there needs to be more than that given female sexuality is much more normalized now. When you put this up against shows like Insecure, there is no competition. And it is clear this was written by an older man and not a millennial black woman. It is also really problematic in terms of the sexual fluidity narrative. I guess it's entertaining if you have time to waste. If not, I would say skip it. We need to make room for better black films than this.
