Set in the 20s it's about a maid having an affair with a rich guy. Starts a bit slow. Then becomes Downton Abbey with added nudity, which is a definite improvement, despite a couple of "I've just seen Prince Charles *" moments. But as it moves on and out becomes obvious that it's about the sheer volume of grief following the first World War, it becomes genuinely moving. Doesn't all work. The wraparound story feels unnecessary, but some very good performances, and worth a look.
Ignore the other reviews. This is stunning. A work of feeling and beauty. The pacing will not suit those wanting plots and action, it's perfectly paced for its time.
Lots of earthy cinematography... very decent acting and an interesting story... a movie to just relax and ponder. The weaving of * shots of Odessa Young are masterful... done with taste... while not taking over the story. A lot of character building in such a short time.
Came across when looking for a 'nice, relaxing' film to watch when visiting my parents and thought the cast looked good. The storyline was, however, confusing at best and non-existent at worst. A film made to win all the independent film awards, and who cares what the punters make of it. Dreadful.
