Surely hospitals had full generator back up..and were nurses really unkind in the 70's ? Unbelievable hokum..i gave up!

TIMELESS NOELMar 29, 2023

The lead actor, Rose Williams ( 8* for her) is excellent in the role she's given. It's not the meatiest role but she gives it her everything and wins the audience over. She's a treat to watch as a budding young actress and I hope to see more of her in better parts in the future. The movie takes place in London 1974 black outs due to labor disputes. In a darkened old hospital, truth about abusive staff comes to light. Meh...

A Disturbing thriller set in 1974 about a young nurse who is forced to work the night shift in an old hospital with a dark past as striking miners switch off the power across Britain every night. Thee power is a disturbing haunting story of both a mixed originality and typicality at the same time. The typical revenge haunting story with a unique mix of a disturbing dark truth. I didn't care much for the typicality of the haunting story or the jump scares as I admired the message which lies beneath, the question of what if the people you "blindly" trust the most to help you in your weakness and the time of need while you are sick is not the angels they claim to be? A poignant message and an aqueduct performance from the lead actress with a palpable dark atmosphere that draws any horror fan, a great mix for a good entertaining feature! Yet it could've been a more attractive experience if it had a revisit from the screenplay writers to add a captivating dialogue and a fast based theme from the director.

Well, I wanted to like it as, the visual & mood are appealing. But the plot goes nowhere, it is a borefest without real development. Jump scares are a big thing too, nobody likes them, but used in small doses they can be effective. But unfortunately this is used systematically and in tons. After the jump scare rapes, you just get numb, you'll never feel suspense, as you become totally detached from this horror cliche. The writers or directors, seem to be totally clueless or didn't care, or how else would one explain the total absence of flavor or uniqueness. Wouldn't be surprised if this film would have been rendered by some Google AI test project, as it lacks any human creativity. Stay away, and remember the director, stay away from him aswell.

Started promising. But somehow lost me on the way. I wanted to love him - the atmosphere, the background story - everything was great, but in the end, sewing of all the parts of the plot was less successful.

This film start with a nurse "Val" waking up from her bed, and she arrive at her working place scene! As turnout, this film is about Val need to team up with a ghost "Gail" to take down a villain doctor "Franklyn", and eventually saving a little girl "Saba"! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the searching scene, overuse of the jump scare scene, overuse of the smoking scene, overuse of the song playing at the background scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the running scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the news broadcasting on the radio scene, overuse of the peeking scene, and overuse of the hallucinate scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, after the death of Franklyn, Val saving Saba out from the hospital! That's it! Wasting time to watch!

On the plus side, Rose Williams is a welcome screen presence but this movie does nothing but shove her into boring situations and cram her mouth full of woeful, immature dialogue. The music is... creative? I suppose? I mean, it's wonky and weird. It's not exactly Mica Levi, but at least it's trying to be different. The cinematography is occassionally competent too. But the script... god have mercy. Apparently set in 1974 (though looks like a pre-war film for most of the runtime), Rose is working in a hospital during rolling power cuts and, during the night, very mild horror cliches are churned out in long, lazily edited sequences. All of the characters are just vessels for clunky lines delivered in a humourless monotone. The ending is laugh-out-loud funny, but not worth the ticket price. As many others have said, it absolutely smacks you around the face with its political messaging, but I won't lose sleep over its rotten core of misandry. The 'message' here is so juvenile and cringeworthy that it holds no power. Ironically. One star, for Rose.
