Sister Sister

It's not as good as I thought ;-; There was lack of techniques and creativity in the film. I know that this was just the remake but when compared the movie The Handmaiden, I just feel very disapointed.

Stumbling upon this 2019 Vietnamese drama titled "Chi Chi Em Em" (aka "Sister Sister") by random chance here in 2023, of course I opted to sit down and watch it, given my love of the Asian cinema. I had never actually heard about this movie prior to watching it, so I wasn't sure what I was in for, nor did I actually have any expectations, so director Kathy Uyen had every opportunity to impress me. The storyline, however, was a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me. I managed to endure a mind-boggling 40 minutes of not being particularly entertained before I tossed the towel in the ring and gave up out of sheer and utter boredom. And I have zero intentions of returning to watch the rest of the movie, nor am I going to attempt to sit down and watch the 2023 sequel "Chi Chi Em Em 2" either. I suppose that I was just not in the right demographic target audience for a movie such as this, so I can't give any praise to writers Timothy Linh Bui, Justin Cao, Doan Si Nguyen, Tue Trinh and Kathy Uyen. The acting performances in "Chi Chi Em Em" were actually quite good, and they had a good cast ensemble. Given my limited exposure to the Vietnamese cinema, then I can't claim that I was familiar with any of the talents on the cast list. But despite the fact that the storyline was not entertaining for me, then I can say that the acting performances were good. I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as this. I just happened not to be a part of that particular audience. My rating of "Chi Chi Em Em" lands on a four out of ten stars.
