Amusing story and some smart dialogue. But there's more to acting than just saying the lines. A bit like a film-school project?
I remember watching the TV show back in the late 70'.s. As a child I enjoyed it as an adult I realized it didn't take much to amuse me. That being said, there are reviews that criticize the show's production values and I get the impression that some were looking for a meaningfully thought provoking show. Nope, you will not find it here. Remember this show was based on a 1970's campy children's show by the Kroft brothers. The Kroft brothers are known to create campy and trippy TV shows. I found the show on Tubi TV and I went into it expecting campy cheesy goofiness. I was not disappointed. I love the innocent goodness of the main characters and the overzealous traitorous agent. If you are looking for a movie that you can sit back and not think for hour and a half this is for you. However I do wish Deidra Hall(the original Electra Woman) made a cameo appearance.
I remember watching "The Krofft Supershow" Saturday mornings in the mid-70s when I was a kid. "Dr. Shrinker," "Wonderbug," and "Electra Woman & Dyna Girl" were my favorites, although even as a 10 year old in the days before cable I knew it was all 3rd rate crap. But it was *fun* 3rd rate crap! How cool to see Hannah Hart & Grace Helbig bring back two such obscure characters and set them as modern-day superheroes who are barely scraping by in the Ohio suburbs! Everything about this movie is tongue in cheek, and done with a broad wink at the audience. The dialogue is absolutely loaded with great lines and asides, and even though I've seen it 3 times now, I still laugh all the way through it! I recommend it to anyone in the mood for off-beat humor that pokes fun at the current, über-popular superhero genre!
Growing up, this was one of my faves. I enjoyed it much more than batman. I remember the actresses being hot and the stories being campy. We probably watched the same 10 episodes at least 5 times but it was never really boring to us. This film has some boring parts, But also some fun interactions. It would have been so much better if they had tried to get look alikes for the original actors to bring back the nostalgia or at least models to do the acting, or makeup that could make these actors look good??? The 2 actresses they chose were probably the worst aspect of the film and lead more to it leaning toward unwatchable than the effects or the sometimes failed attempts at humor. I suppose I should not have been surprised that the actors were utube personalities, of course, that explains so much! At least you know to lower your expectations way down. If they had made it more like the original in presentation it would have been much better. Obviously, with their small budget they had to do a lot of weird camera angles and cut aways to perform their special effects which hurt the film. I'm torn whether to say the effects were decent based on the budget, or they were bordering on unacceptable. I suppose they used most of the effects budget on the first couple of Electra-shocks and the supercar rental fees. The arm gag was hilarious. As noted in some other reviews, the best actor seems to be their agent. Everyone else came across as pretty amateur. To do the extreme closeups they did (because of small sets) with the poor makeup that they used, It was pretty brutal on the eyes. I just felt horrible for those actors watching their finished product and seeing every blemish, wrinkle and mole in its hi-Def glory. I can't say I would watch it again. I would be more likely to seek out the original episodes from the 70s and experience the true nostalgia. But if you have time on your hands for an 81 minute camp-fest with subpar actors...Give it a look.
I'd give this 11 stars if I could, because it measures up to "Spinal Tap" as a parody of superhero stories, and a satisfying story on its own.
I had say that I had a lot of fun watching this movie. The writing and actors were perfect. I hope I can find more movies like this.
Although the movie IS watchable, it has nothing in common with the original series, except for the names of the characters. It's failed attempts at camp and humor actually make it funny enough to watch. Adding some horrific violence and gore into this did not help their cause either. Both actors had potential, but they just didn't give it anything. I think the guy playing Frank was the best character in this film. I love the twist they gave his personality......that fit so well with the modernization of this....uh, fiasco. If you ever watch this, treat it like you would a very badly made fan-film. It tries, but it just doesn't make it. Kind of like watching a fan made Superman flick where Superman is a scrawny nerd instead of a buff he-man, wearing a saggy Superman suit. It just doesn't fit.
A very boring movie and their attempt at humor completely misses the mark... I don't think I laughed once through the whole movie. I'm puzzled by all the high scores people gave this movie, I can only think they were written by friends and family. I write this in the hopes of saving others from wasting time :)
...in a 60's Batman, The Tick, Kick-ass kinda way. Bad(ish) first in this one: Fairly predictable plot and scripting. The rest: Acting from the mostly unknown(to me at least) cast was well done and enjoyable. Directing...this one moved along nicely, no real slow spots. Production values were good. Special effects were a nice surprise, neither overdone nor cheesy. Overall not a bad way to spend a few hours on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
