تدور أحداث القصة حول الأميرة (باربي) التي تتعرض لموقف غير متوقع حين تتبادل الأماكن مع (إريكا) مغنية موسيقى الروك، وتذهب كل منهما لمعسكر جامعي مختلف، وتعرفان أن كلا المعسكرين مهدد بالإغلاق، تضطر كل واحدة منهما أن تتغلب على اختلافاتهما، والعقبات المختلفة من تكوين صداقات جديدة والتكيف مع البيئة المختلفة التي تعيشان فيها، والتخطيط لحفل موسيقي كبير تظهران فيه معًا.
