Publisher's Summary Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), credited as the inspiration for radio, robots, and even radar, has been called the patron saint of modern electricity. Based on original material and previously unavailable documents, this acclaimed book is the definitive biography of the man considered by many to be the founding father of modern electrical technology. Among Tesla's creations were the channeling of alternating current, fluorescent and neon lighting, wireless telegraphy, and the giant turbines that harnessed the power of Niagara Falls. ©1996 Marc J. Would you try another book from Marc J. Seifer and/or Simon Prebble? No,not based upon this book. It seemed too much of the research/story was based upon bank records and personal communication to or from Tesla. There was enough there to keep going back to but I did not look forward to doing so.How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?More details of the science behind his inventions and more details of the inventions.Did the narration match the pace of the story? The narration was fine.Did Wizard inspire you to do anything?Get more done in the limited lifetime we are given.Any additional comments? The book was ok, but the story was a bit long and dreary. Hearing about Teslas long struggle with poverty, legal battles and deranged life did not make for happy or compelling listening. I would have liked more details on the science and the inventions with less emphasis on the money management, personal communications and legal dramas Tesla had to deal with.

Would you try another book from Marc J. Seifer and/or Simon Prebble?NoWhat could Marc J. Seifer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you? This book needed some relentless editing. What character would you cut from Wizard?this book definitely needs to be cut about 30%.I didn't finish it. Any additional comments?Somehow this book manages to make an interesting character seem boring. Patent disputes, details about the generator, commutators and brushes. Tesla shines as a young engineer.Tesla goes into business for himself. Tesla works too hard. Tesla amazes people with high voltage. Tesla gets invited to parties. Tesla doesn't get due credit for inventions.

Nikola Tesla is a true genius. What an awesome mind at inventing the foundation of modern ways that we live.Listening to the "Wizard" was really interesting.I could not get enough with all of Tesla's inventions and the society that he lived in.I should had listened to Marc J. Seifer's biography on Nikola Tesla a lot sooner.I grasp to information like this.I never heard about Tesla, the inventor before I bought this book.

Nikola Tessla was a genius. His inventions, including the ac motor, radio, microwave and many more changed civilization forever. However, he was also a difficult madman at times. For instance, J.P. Morgan gave him $120,000 dollars for a specific project- to make a telegraph to send the Yachting news to his offshore boat. Instead, he took the money to go to Colorado to construct a radio tower. He antagonized Mr. Morgan, forever. Mr. Morgan proceeded to block all of his future endeavors. Because of his exasperating personality he became largely lost to history until Elan Musk named his car after him. Great read.

This is one of the most thorough biographies I have ever read. Expect to learn a lot about topics surrounding Tesla. It really gives you a feeling of the world around Tesla as well as the lives of the many interesting people he surrounded himself with. This telling of his life is unabridged af.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? The story isn't exactly what you would call "chock full" of interesting information about Tesla and his inventions, it's more about his interactions with blustery blowhards like J.P. Morgan.I know more about his emotional affair with Katherine Johnson than I do his patents.I love history, but this is a dry read (er, listen) and it's like taking a masters level course.Friends ask me why I don't just stop, but I have so much invested in it already, and it's a bit of a Sisyphean task at this point. What do you think your next listen will be?Not this.I need something lighter.Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Simon Prebble?Simon Pegg? What character would you cut from Wizard?Katherine Johnson.

A biography, doubtless very accurate, full with endless and absolutely uninteresting details about meetings with just about everybody in Tesla's life, their conversations, opinions, gossip, maneouvers, commings and goings. This book is surely a good Master's or Doctoral work, but I would suggest a shorter version for a literary work.

Any additional comments?Almost at the very beginning the author attempts to tell the history of the Balkans and all involved nations - and makes a horrible job at it. The history narrated is largely in-factual and told from a very strict Serb point of view - the same narrative used when they launched aggressive wars in early 90s.While Tesla's background as a Serb born in rural Croatia may be interesting to mention in the context of his childhood, the centuries before he was born are not relevant to tell the story of this great man.
