Publisher's Summary Some things are better off forgotten. Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the Pilgrim, and he expects to die on the Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him. That's the way things are on a generation starship centuries from home. He's never questioned it. Never thought about it. And why bother? Access points to the ship's controls are sealed, the systems that guide her automated and out of reach. It isn't perfect, but he has all he needs to be content. Until a malfunction forces his engineer wife to the edge of the habitable zone to inspect the damage. Until she contacts him, breathless and terrified, to tell him she found a body, and it doesn't belong to anyone on board. Until he arrives at the scene and discovers both his wife and the body are gone. The only clue? A bloody handprint beneath a hatch that hasn't opened in hundreds of years. Until now. ©2017 M.R. I bought this book on a whim, as I thought the story seemed like it would hold my interest. And it did. I can’t wait for the next book to be released on Audible! Their was plenty of action, and the narrator was very good!
kind of a rip off of other stories and weak on science concepts.bnot interested in sequels
The story is very entertaining. At times, some characters appear one dimensional but it doesn’t destroy the story. Lots of action and suspense.
Action packed story. If you like John McClane's adventures but wanted him on a starship then this is the book for you!
Ridiculously dumb story line, made even worse by Narrator’s technique of instantly changing from a normal measured tone, to then practically yelling out the story very rapidly (apparently to signify that a scene is supposed to have become more exciting, or that there is suddenly some intense action taking place). I’ve listened to hundreds of audio books before, and have never come across such an annoying (and frankly, very unpleasant) narrative technique. I definitely won’t be buying any more works by MR Forbes, and I will likely avoid anything narrated by Jonathan Davis, unless this was a technique the book’s author specifically wanted.
Well I didn’t see that coming..... I love when a book surprises me with a twist. I predicted something very different happening. Not a perfect story, but it left not wanting to stop listening and to me that is when I know it was worth the credit.
I quit shortly after starting the book. Narrator was ok. I was feeling like I already knew how it was gonna end or maybe it was to cliche for me. The book just did not pull me in.Cops as main characters I find boring.I’m not saying it’s bad. If you think you will like it give it a try.
Good plot idea, but author continously advances the plot by having people yell at each other. I gave up very quickly.
This book involves a sheriff who discovers that his whole world is not as he as been taught. He begins a quest to recover his wife when she is abducted and finds that the people in charge do not want him to know about the world. He is taught that he is on a spacecraft on the way to a new destination; but it turns out that there are secrets within secrets that people will kill to keep. The narration is great the the story line keeps you in suspense the entire story.
I really enjoy M.R. Forbes writing style; and this isn't an exception. While the ideas and the filler are maybe not super original, he manages to put it together in a way that is different enough to keep you guessing. Good Narrator, Good Book, Great Author. I'm on to the next book, that's for sure.Pause That!
