Tom Aspinall will be the backup for the Jon Jones-Stipe Miocic fight. The UFC interim heavyweight champion was on a mission and he surely did accomplish the same at UFC 304. Being denied a shot at the undisputed title for a long time, UFC 304 was Aspinall’s way of justifying his credibility. And boy oh boy what a way to do that. Jon Jones reacted to Tom Aspinall’s callout. Sort of. Aspinall successfully defended his interim heavyweight title with a 60-second knockout of Curtis Blaydes in the co-main event of UFC 304 on Saturday night in Manchester. Following the victory, Aspinall called for a unification bout with Jones, who defeated Ciryl Gane in March 2023 at UFC 285 to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title. On Sunday, “Bones” gave his first public reaction to Aspinall’s comments. Jones is expected to make his first title defense later this year against Stipe Miocic, a matchup UFC CEO Dana White is steadfast in wanting to happen, despite the majority of the community hoping UFC switches gears to Jones vs. Aspinall. The former light heavyweight champ has teased retirement, and even has been setting up a fight with current 205-pound titleholder Alex Pereira over the past several months.
