Substâncias presentes no mamão papaia colocadas em contato com células extraídas de tumores do intestino foram capazes de diminuir sua proliferação. Isto aconteceu in vitro, e em tumores de humanos. Mais: quanto mais maduro o mamão, maior é a ação das substâncias.
