Remember when WWE wrestlers used to look and feel larger-than-life? You had guys like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Batista, Lesnar, Cena, and even the guys in the mid-card had frames that made them feel different from normal human beings. You looked at them and knew that the people in the ring are on a different level than us mere mortals. It felt like they came from a different planet. But today? Most of the roster looks like guys you'd run into during a trip to Walmart. They look aesthetic, they are athletic. But they don’t have that It Factor that makes you stand and stare. And here's the thing — it's not just the physical aspect. Wrestlers back in the day would walk through crowds literally throwing garbage at them, fans trying to stab them, and they'd brush it off like it was nothing. But today, a wrestler will have a mental breakdown over a single tweet. They’ll get into Twitter feuds with fans and even get upset because their match didn't get a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer. And to top it off, they’ll go on a podcast to cry about how poorly they’re being treated. So how did we get here? How did wrestlers go from larger-than-life role models to whiny crybabies? Well, as someone who’s been watching wrestling for almost thirty years, I've noticed there are four key reasons why WWE wrestlers have become so soft today both physically and mentally.
