Japanese right-wing protests over the Kuril Islands - 北方領土問題

Japan wants Russia to hand over the four South Kuril islands (a.k.a. the Northern Territories dispute (北方領土問題 Hoppō Ryōdo Mondai) located at the southern end of the Kuril chain (the closest being 15 km off the Japanese island of Hokkaido) that were occupied by Soviet forces at the end of the war in 1945, saying they are Japanese territory. Japanese right-wing nationalists regularly demonstrate in front of the the Russian embassy in the Azabudai district. Every year, a more heavily organized protest takes place on August 9th in front of hundreds of members of the police and anti-riot forces.
