After Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field, India were skittled out for just 179, a total that looked well below par on a traditionally batter-friendly Sharjah surface. The Indian top order struggled badly, offering little resistance, and it was Ajay Jadeja who provided the lone meaningful contribution, holding the innings together amid regular wickets. What followed, however, was a dramatic turnaround driven by India’s pace attack. Sri Lanka’s chase never got going as Ajit Agarkar and Javagal Srinath unleashed a fierce new-ball spell under lights. Agarkar, fresh from a match-winning batting effort against Sri Lanka in the previous game, struck this time with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets. Srinath was equally lethal, claiming two wickets, one of which marked a major career milestone — his 200th wicket in one-day internationals. Sri Lanka’s top order folded completely, crashing to 21 for 4 inside eight overs, effectively ending the contest before it had begun. With the damage done by the seamers, India’s spinners applied the finishing touches, as Sri Lanka were bundled out for a miserable 98, one of their most forgettable batting performances in limited-overs cricket. Agarkar’s all-round influence and incisive bowling earned him the Man of the Match, as India overcame their batting woes to produce a dominant, knockout-stage performance and march confidently into the final. #thriller #indvssl #highlights #cricketmax #india
