It’s often said tag partners have great matches due familiarity, well the same can be said for trainers and pupils, and is certainly the case here. Some gamesmanship with a t-shirt of the shared training venue is overshadowed by a quick handshake and it’s on. With both wrestlers knowing each other so well probing is minimal. Each hold is almost immediately contested and often it’s hard to tell who really has the advantage. Amber doesn’t have the speed advantage she’s used to but her agility & sense of leverage are difference makers early as she gets out of a couple of potentially tough spots. Chasyn certainly has a power advantage but seems to be having a bout with chivalry and seems hesitant to fully utilize it. Perhaps preferring to beat Amber at her own game and lord it over her, or so he thinks. All these factors come together in an intricate version of physical chess, both wrestlers trying to think moves ahead while countering various surprises as with this level of familiarity ad-libbing is a must. Such is the pace and constantly swinging pendulum of advantage that referee Kiah Dream has a hard time keeping up, causing frustration for one competitor. Chasyn finally starts to play his power card late, mostly with submissions, as Amber takes more and more risks and both wrestlers come perilously close to victory on multiple occasions. Fittingly it’s a stunning end to a spectacular match, but the defeated wrestler can’t accept it was clean and a beleaguered referee is forced to stand up for herself.
