Burnley's spirited second half display ultimately to be proved in vain, as the Clarets fell to a first defeat in three Premier League outings, losing 3-1 to Newcastle United at Turf Moor. In a lively first half, the Geordies were two goals to the good inside the opening six minutes. It took the visitors just 66 seconds to break the deadlock, as Anthony Gordon broke down the left, before zipping a cross into the area for Joelinton to steer home into the far corner and give United the lead.
