Malia’s disdain for rookies is legendary and this is one of the early matches from the Vault that helped build to that legend. Even then her reputation was fearsome prompting the desperation in Jessica’s offense, attacking before ref Wally D can even finish introductions! In retrospect going to Malia’s eyes early was probably a bad idea as it gives Hosaka credence to do many things that cause the ref to count to 4. Jessica shows great fortitude early turning the tide multiple times but her offense is sporadic and desperate in nature, taking what Malia is giving her. Malia on the other hand is focused on turning off the youngster’s engine and multiple shots to the throat and chest as well as chokes making it hard for Jessica to breathe. As they trade Sleepers Jessica starts to fall into the trap of trying to fight fire with fire, resorting to chokes as well, but her high risk offense isn’t paying off enough and Malia is just getting madder! After enduring a tight Bow & Arrow Jessica makes one last valiant attempt scoring several near falls But Malia won’t stay down. A tight Sleeper has Jessica in jeopardy but she manages to counter, however Malia is relentless and counters back into another Sleeper. A valiant stretch to the ropes saves Jessica for the moment but Malia will not be denied and for Jessica there simply is no escape from a third Sleeper!
