With 24-hour weigh-ins still commonplace in the sport of arm wrestling, it encourages the rather controversial practice of "water cutting." This has inadvertently led to the phenomenon of "weight bulling" — where an athlete who normally weighs much more than the weight limited drastically cuts weight via dehydration to make weight before rehydrating back to their normal weight. This gives such athletes a distinct advantage over others who may choose to compete closer to their normal walk-around weight, as it allows for larger-sized athletes to compete against their smaller sized peers.
