🥊 FIGHT DESCRIPTION: Sergey Lipinets brought an end to Lamont Peterson’s career. Kubrat Pulev battled through a gruesome cut to secure a stoppage victory, Lamont Peterson (35-5-1) put in a strong showing for much of Sunday night, digging in with heavy body shots and mixing in sharp right hands. However, former junior welterweight champion Sergey Lipinets (15-1, 11 KOs), who entered the bout as a slight betting favorite and was only in his second fight at welterweight, shifted the momentum in dramatic fashion. He badly hurt Peterson in the eighth round and eventually stopped him in the 10th. The punishment proved too much, prompting Peterson’s longtime trainer Barry Hunter to throw in the towel and halt the fight. Following the bout, Peterson admitted, “I’m sure it’s time for me to hang it up.” For the former welterweight titleholder, it marked the end of a respectable career. After suffering a one-sided loss to Errol Spence Jr. 14 months earlier, and now a decisive defeat to Lipinets, Peterson ultimately chose to walk away from the sport.
