MIT.nano will be a 200,000-square-foot research facility for nanoscale research constructed at the very heart of the MIT campus. (Learn more about MIT.nano: The building will house state-of-the-art cleanroom, imaging, and prototyping facilities supporting research with nanoscale materials and processes — in fields including energy, health, life sciences, quantum sciences, electronics, and manufacturing.

What comes down, will come up as MIT.nano. Watch the time-lapse demolition of Building 12, as MIT makes way for a new 200,000-square-foot center for nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The slurry wall is taking shape for MIT.nano, a 200,000-square-foot center for nanoscience and nanotechnology located at the heart of campus.
MIT doesn't shy away from challenges—that includes constructing a building in the heart of campus. Learn what it's taking to build MIT.nano, a 200,000 square foot center for nanoscience and nanotechnology. It is like building a ship in a bottle.
MIT.nano required the excavation of a 200,000 sq ft hole in the heart of campus. How'd that get accomplished? 1,000 yards of sand were trucked out daily.
An enormous steel structure is rising—piece by piece, and bolt by bolt—out of a giant hole in the middle of campus. MIT's future home for cutting-edge nanoscience and nanotechnology research is getting fitted with 23 tons of steel per day for a total of 2,101 tons.
MIT is constructing, at the heart of the campus, a new 200,000-square-foot center for nanoscience and nanotechnology. This advanced facility will be a place for tinkering with atoms, one by one—and for constructing, from these fantastically small building blocks, the innovations of the future.
