Publisher's Summary In the spirit of Steve Jobs and Moneyball, Elon Musk is both an illuminating and authorized look at the extraordinary life of one of Silicon Valley's most exciting, unpredictable, and ambitious entrepreneurs - a real-life Tony Stark - and a fascinating exploration of the renewal of American invention and its new makers. Elon Musk spotlights the technology and vision of Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur and innovator behind SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity, who sold one of his Internet companies, PayPal, for $1.5 billion. Ashlee Vance captures the full spectacle and arc of the genius' life and work, from his tumultuous upbringing in South Africa and flight to the United States to his dramatic technical innovations and entrepreneurial pursuits. Vance uses Musk's story to explore one of the pressing questions of our age: Can the nation of inventors and creators who led the modern world for a century still compete in an age of fierce global competition? He argues that Musk - one of the most unusual and striking figures in American business history - is a contemporary, visionary amalgam of legendary inventors and industrialists, including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, and Steve Jobs. More than any other entrepreneur today, Musk has dedicated his energies and his own vast fortune to inventing a future that is as rich and far reaching as the visionaries of the golden age of science-fiction fantasy. ©2015 Ashlee Vance (P)2015 HarperCollins Publishers

Great book, inspiring, interesting, and well worth the time.Great for driving, exercising, or just listening.
I enjoyed the book. I don't like Musk. He treats people the way he was treated in school in South Africa. Management style of Attila the Hun. All I kept thinking was Elon get some class. I also hope someone beats him to Mars, preferably an American woman.
Authors who write about live subjects often suffer from too much adoration and not much critical thought...this is the case in this book. It's a long read about a visionary with an interesting childhood that is at the forefront of a technology shift. It was so interesting that I couldn't finish it.
Fascinating insights and unheard stories about the early days, I can totally recommend this book for all early adopters
Good insights, original research, good narrative. Even if you think you already know most things about Elon's companies, MO and life, this book is totally worth it.
Reading the history of a man who actually has saving the world in mind - and evidently some of the tools to do it - seems to be mandatory. This is an exceptional man doing exceptional things with a sense of purpose that seems to have eluded Steve Jobs. Elon is the reason to get this but the writing and narration are very good. Well worth the time and credit spent
Loved getting an insight into Elon's world and it makes me more confident in his abilities based on what he's been through and his philosophies ... I don't think he can have much of a personal life though. I'm sure people like him don't come around often . I'd like shawn Stevenson to coach him on nutrition (and the science behind it) so he takes good care of himself and he can live long enough to accomplish all his lofty goals. Maybe he'll start another company that can make the world healthier as well!!! Anyways, great book but you come away feeling like you're not doing enough with your life. I'm back at work on a Monday and it feels weird that I'm not trying to change the world....
While I agree Elon Musk is smart and ambitious and crazy, there's no need to give excuses or explanations for every seemingly negative comment or accusation Musk has ever faced, real or imaginary.
Loved it. What a fascinating visionary and business man. It should be interesting to see where his company's are 10 years from now and if we have a human on mars.
I felt like this was much more of a biography about Elon's companies than a biography about Elon himself. I also found the writing style to be weak.
