A first-half Joao Palhinha goal was enough to secure Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League status and consign Everton to a 1-0 away defeat on the final day of the 2025/26 season. Palhinha scrambled home from a corner – after his initial header had cannoned back off the post – to clinch a game of few clear-cut chances and earn avoid Spurs' first relegation from the top flight since 1977. Everton pushed in the closing stages and went closest in the dying seconds when substitute Tyrique George beat his marker before forcing Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky into an acrobatic save.
