Wrestling Bios Presents - The Complete History of the WWF European Championship Founded during late 1997, the European Championship was active in the WWE until mid 2002. Even as a midcard title within wrestling, fans still fondly remember the years the title was around. The European Championship was first won by The British Bulldog after defeating Owen Hart in a tournament held in Germany. The title would quickly gain prestige when Shawn Michaels defeated Bulldog at One Night Only, a UK exclusive PPV show held in Birmingham, England.
