2019 Novel Coronavirus epidemic, originating from China has spread globally outside China with high fatality. India too has reported similar cases. An awareness program on “2019-Novel Coronavirus” was organized by the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, SGTU for the non-teaching staff and healthcare workers of SGTU. About 300 people attended the event. At the outset, Dr. Sansar Chand Sharma, Dean, FMHS, SGTU apprised the audience of the need for such awareness and necessary timely measures that healthcare personnel at SGTU can adapt to tackle the threat. Dr. Anita Chakravarti, Professor & Head, Department of Microbiology, updated the audience on the 2019-Novel Coronavirus and its pathogenesis. Dr. DPS Sudan, Professor & Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine spoke on the predominant clinical symptoms and care of the patient. SGT University held its weekly health-related program 'SGT Cares' on Saturday, July 20, 2019. The topic of the program was skin disorders and diseases affecting humans during the monsoon season. Skincare expert Dr. Sahni shared his opinions and advice on the subject. He elaborated that skin disorders like skin fungal infection affecting skin, nails, and hair were prominent skin diseases affecting people this season. He explained that these skin diseases though not life-threatening were quite irritating and distressful. People dealing with soil, such as farmers were prone to these diseases. He suggested precautions such as cleanliness, not sharing or wearing damp clothes as preventive methods against these skin ailments. The program concluded with the message that precaution was always better than a cure. In this episode of SGT Cares, we discuss various health issues and concerns that adolescent girls have to face. Dr. Bindu, expert gynecologist, shares her knowledge and views regarding this topic. She explicates the importance of women and specifically girl's hygiene in day to day life. She highlights the importance of using sanitary pads and its safe disposal. Dr. Bindu states that one should abstain from flushing pads in toilets and rather throw them in a covered bin. She further explains that taboo concerning this topic should be eradicated. Girls, especially those who cannot afford napkins should use clean and sun-dried cotton clothes. In the latter half of this video, Dr. Bindu discusses the subject of sexually transmitted diseases and the importance of contraceptives and emergency pills.
