I explain how 4-digit numbers consist of four parts (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones). Each digit has its own "home" or place, and its own value. I explain the expanded form, and we do some exercises. Math Mammoth Grade 4 curriculum

Here we practice writing six-digit numbers when their "parts" are given. This is similar to the expanded form of a number but the parts are in scrambled order. It makes it easy when you think of the entire thousands separately, and the rest separately. Math Mammoth Grade 4 Curriculum Online practice for place value

In this video, we continue exploring large numbers with 6 digits. I show how to read them. Then we add and subtract multiples of 1000 using mental math (e.g. 300,000 + 60,000). Online practice for place value

In this video, I solve and explain a variety of mental math problems where we operate near so many thousands. For example, if you have 2,965, how much is missing from the next multiple of thousand (which is 3,000)? We also look at subtractions where you subtract from a multiple of thousand (e.g. 8000 - 36) and study the error of estimation a little bit. Math Mammoth Grade 4 curriculum
